Recipe Evolution: Marion Cunningham’s Holiday Stuffed Dates By Way Of The 1896 Fannie Farmer Cookbook (And Amelia Saltsman)

The great thing about holiday cookies is they never feel “old” — you make them only once a year. In theory, at least. And so over the next few weeks, I am revisiting holiday cookies past, like this brown butter date-walnut “roll,” really a walnut-stuffed date that’s dipped in a sour cream cake-like cookie batter from Santa Monica-based cookbook author Amelia Saltsman (By the way, her Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Cookbook is a gem for home cooks after seasonal and interesting recipe ideas that aren’t overly chef-y and complicated.).
